Bryson City, nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, was incorporated in 1889 and named after Thaddeus D. Bryson, a prominent local figure. Originally a Cherokee settlement, the town grew rapidly with the arrival of the railroad and the boom of the timber industry, becoming a hub for commerce and travel in Western North Carolina.

Visitors to Bryson City in Swain County NC are warmly welcomed on the first floor entrance to the Heritage Museum.
